Excelsior-Henderson Riders Club
Pioneer Chapter Meeting Minutes
Stark's Saloon - Eagan, MN -
16Mar2008
Assistant Director Doc Jones brought the meeting to order.
Secretary's Report
- Secretary Chuck Barsness had to work, therefore Randy Schwandt read
minutes of the last meeting.
Treasurer’s Report –
Phil Ward
- Treasurer Phil Ward was on vacation, so we had no Treasurer’s Report.
Those in attendance didn’t know of any expenses incurred or income realized
other than membership, so the treasury should stand pretty much as in last
month’s report.
Membership Report – John Jones
- 2008 Membership - John Jones - 301 N Main St, Le Sueur MN 56058-4361 is
our membership chairman,
duc88825@hotmail.com, 507-665-4062. John reported membership at . Since
memberships run from January through January, we’re well into the 2008
membership year. Please send your $20 yearly dues to John, or
renew at our website.
Rally 2008
- Motel - Phil Ward has contacted the manager of the Downtown Motel in Le
Sueur and reserved the remainder of the rooms. Contact Phil directly to put
your name in for one of these few remaining rooms. pjward1707@hotmail.com or
507-281-2278.
- Venue - As requested by the membership last meeting, Doc Jones
investigated what we would need to do to set up a tent at the Rally site at
the Motel in Le Sueur. The actual setup should be done by the tent company,
to keep us out of having liability for improper/inadequate setup procedures.
He also found a surprising number of forms would need to be filled out
detailing the size of the tent, its location, and its material. In addition,
we need to get a Building Permit. The bowling alley (in the same building as
the hotel) saw a benefit to our having the tent in the front of the hotel,
attracting more visitors to their establishment. Doc suggested, and the
members moved, that Doc pursue erecting a tent in the front of the bowling
alley/hotel, and request that the hotel and bowling alley take care of the
paperwork with the Chapter paying for fees and tent rental. Other
alternatives are a Community Center at $54/hour (which the membership
declined) or there are two parks where we could reserve a shelter for around
$25 or $50. We’ll keep these options in mind for discussion at upcoming
meetings if we run into snags with the tent.
- Albert Lea - Mike reported that Brian Berhow at
Northstar Powersports &
Marine in Albert Lea mentioned in conversation that they would be
interested in again welcoming Rally attendees the Wednesday before the
Rally. Randy will convey this information to Chuck Barsness. (After the
meeting, Chuck talked with Brian and we will be at NorthStar
PowerSports in Albert Lea to open the 2008 Rally the evening of the 9th of
July).
- Poker Run - Ken Bretz will again chair the Friday Poker Run. Let Ken or
any of the officers know if you have a suggestion for a tour/event/activity
during the run – the brewery tour two years ago was great, but we need to
wait a few years before we repeat it. kbretz@isd.net or 952-447-6295.
- Bike Show & Awards - Mike asked if there were any ideas for a Rally 2008
logo that we could incorporate into our awards. There were no suggestions,
so we’ll address this at the next meeting.
- Registration Fees - We’ll keep both the Daily and Event-Long
registration fees the same as last year. $35 per person pre-registration,
$40 on-site per person, $15 individual day per person.
Old Business
-
Officer Elections - A motion was passed via a showing of
hands that candidates Randy Schwandt (Director), Chuck Barsness (Secretary),
and John Jones (Membership Chair) be elected by the body unanimously.
-
Membership Gift - Mike Hamann presented two initial designs
of a winged jacket patch for our 2008 membership gift. It’s modeled after
the Factory winged patch, but will include “Riders Club” and will also
simplify the wing design, thereby bringing out the red “X” at the center.
The choice was tabled until the next meeting, when Mike will present final
designs and we will order patches.
New Business
-
Chapter Ride – It was suggested that the Chapter have a
social get-together, a “Trail Ride”, after the Rally and Sturgis. Discussion
of the idea centered on a ride to maybe Madeline Island or Hay Creek, with a
stay over when others could join for the ride back. No details were decided,
but we’ll keep this in mind closer to September.
Next Meeting
- The April meeting will be April 20, 2008, 1:00 pm at
Renegade's
Bar and Grill - (map)
- 3809 Highway 13 W, Burnsville MN 55337, 952-707-8427. Turn off Highway 13
at Chowen Ave.
